OPERATIONAL MEMBERS (B, C & D SQUAD)
We don't deploy all the time but we need good people when we do. We train year around.
The nature of our Operations is that it is very gratifying to be able to help others but it is not for everyone. We will clarify some things here that will help you up front and guide you to your decision whether to apply to be an Operational Member.
EXCLUSIONS
From the get go - we can advise some exclusions.
We unfortunately cannot accept applications from those already involved as a volunteer for other SAR/emergency response teams as we feel the commitment to more than one team is unfair and impractical. Members of other volunteer SAR Teams should not apply.
We also find that it is a practical and operational benefit to not have heavy smokers and heavy drinkers in operational front line rescue and response work. If you tend to get stressed easily or angry with people - we find that personality trait not conducive. If you cannot work outdoors in heat and cold, especially physical activities, then this may not be ideal for you.
We really appreciate everyone's interest in ERTSAR and we get some interesting applications from people in other countries or who are currently on charge for offences against the person or active volunteers with other teams or are very unfit, etc so we just need to be clear. You cannot be an operational member if that is the case.
There is no prerequisite to becoming a non operational member and you can always support that way and with donations!

CADRE OF INSTRUCTORS: "THE BLACK CATS"
We also have a special cadre of Instructors to assist in the development of ERT SAR Members. Some of you have heard us talking about this. Some instructors come from the Operations side. Some come externally with amazing skills and experiences to form part of the cadre of Directing Staff and Specialists who teach ERT SAR Members.
Most of these are non-operational A Squad Specialists known as the "Black Cats" (as well as Operational members) who are able to teach the team to further enhance learning and development. We have a huge resource of special friends and members who can teach ERT SAR in accordance with our needs and progression requirements!
