INTERESTED IN SUPPORTING US? or Joining our All Hazards Emergency Response Team!?
Are you a "Leader" or do you have useful transferable skills?!
We are actively seeking operational and non-operational volunteers.
Please contact us (membership@ert-sar.com) if you would like to support, fundraise, do admin, or be operational especially if you have any professional emergency services background, are a registered professional titled medic (Doctor, Nurse, Paramedic), or a firefighter or have professional rescue qualifications or marine qualifications, etc. You can help us to help others.
We will need out volunteers who deal with the vulnerable sector to provide a Vulnerable Sector Check as well as the standard 2 references and a background checks before they are operational.
(Full members pay an annual membership fee.)
OPERATIONAL MEMBERSHIP STANDARDS

OPERATIONAL MEMBERS (B, C & D SQUAD)
We don't deploy all the time but we need good people when we do. We train year around.
The nature of our Operations is that it is very gratifying to be able to help others but it is not for everyone. We will clarify some things here that will help you up front and guide you to your decision whether to apply to be an Operational Member.
You must be a legal resident in Canada
You need to be able to attend regular training and meetings (between 5 to 24 per year depending on your role)
You need to be able to wear a uniform smartly
You need to be a dependable team player and communicate
You must be aged between 18 and 70 years old upon application. (Maybe be older if medically fit with declaration.)
Able to clear an enhanced Criminal Record check (with no criminal cases pending or unspent criminal convictions)
Possess a good level of personal fitness (and probably exercise regularly)
Proportionate Height and weight and basic functional fitness (General) OR
A BMI of less than 30 (unless heavily muscled) for Specialists Rescuers and International Specialists.
You should be free of any limiting medical conditions.
You should find good humour in certain challenges
You should enjoy diversity and be tolerant in Humanity
EXCLUSIONS
From the get go - we can advise some exclusions.
We unfortunately cannot accept applications from those already involved as a volunteer for other SAR/emergency response teams as we feel the commitment to more than one team is unfair and impractical. Members of other volunteer SAR Teams should not apply.
We also find that it is a practical and operational benefit to not have heavy smokers and not have heavy drinkers in operational front line rescue and response work. If you tend to get stressed easily or angry with people - we find that personality trait not conducive. If you cannot work outdoors in heat and cold, especially physical activities, then this may not be ideal for you.
We really appreciate everyone's interest in ERTSAR and we get some interesting applications from people in other countries or who are currently on charge for offences against the person or active volunteers with other teams or are very unfit, etc so we just need to be clear. You cannot be an operational member if that is the case.
There is no prerequisite to becoming a non operational member. You can always support that way and with donations!
